Those of us who have undergone difficult childhoods may bring with us a desire to help others when we’re older, in part because it soothes our pain. But this can be a dangerous process, my loves, because it ends up draining the life-force that we need to maintain our own power in this life. We need to pour into ourselves first before we can pursue our purpose of healing others.
Jerome is here looking for his path. He’s been struggling with direction on how to live into his purpose. He knows he’s here to help others, yet he feels pulled in so many different directions. He’s committed to his healing journey, as are so many of us. Today, Jerome and I have a beautiful conversation about working through childhood trauma, and reconnecting with truth, authenticity and power.

Happy New Year! In these times especially, HOPE is something that is so important to cultivate, as well as your relationship with your darkness in devotion to your light. Time and time again, I’ve experienced that the magical process is that when you are willing to look into the darkness, the scary places you wish away, there is a new reality waiting for you just on the other side.

When we have spent so long chasing purpose in the form of a career, it can be quite hard on our identity if we suddenly realize that the path we’re going down is no longer for us. Now, this feeling can lead us to think that we’ve wasted so much time and effort, but I want to assure you that’s not true. Everything that you do matters, even if you can’t quite see why just yet. After all, we are all connected, and we’re all here for a reason bigger than ourselves.
Sophie is here seeking clarity on how to move forward. She has been on a 10-year journey with what she thought was her dream. The discovery of what lights us up, creatively and spiritually, can be such an energizing experience. But those of us, especially in Western societies, know too well the feeling of overwhelm as we try to balance those activities with the demands of our lives, from financial obligations to work demands to the needs of the people around us. Yet, it is an incredibly valuable endeavor to intentionally craft the time to practice what fuels us, even if it requires a restructuring of the other things.
Angela is here today wondering how she can balance leaning into her purpose with meeting the needs and obligations of her “real life.” She feels her soul calling her forward to do more, and she’s really ready to listen and do what she needs to do. Yet, she still has to balance her job and financial concerns alongside her calling. We go through so much growth and change over the course of our lives. And when we share our life with a romantic partner, we can sometimes bump up against a difference in values, leading to a lot of discomfort as we figure out whether a relationship is still meant for us. But through that discomfort we can actually learn a lot about ourselves and the stories we tell ourselves about the problems we face within that relationship.
Bethany is here wanting to understand. She has been in a romantic relationship for the last three years. We tend to hide away memories from our childhood that create discomfort within us, as if to stow them away deep inside the cellar of our metaphorical house. But what we fail to acknowledge within us can become what holds us back later in life, when we are trying to achieve great things in alignment with ourselves. I encourage you, my love, to take a look at those parts, because they’re seeking our love and attention as well as the good.
Buffy is here seeking clarity. She has moved through a lot of iterations of her work over the years, and is wondering about what this next phase will look like. She’s been feeling a shadow following her around for a while, telling her that there’s something more. My heart hurts for those who have gone through incredibly hard things, especially in childhood. People who have experienced abuse often find their trauma sneaking up to the surface in their adult relationships. And healing, especially when you’re a parent, can be difficult, because we want to be as present as possible with our children and our spouse. But we need the grace to be with ourselves and lean on others for support so that we can find relief.
Bradley is here looking for guidance. He’s working through some suppressed childhood trauma, and wants to know how to be fully present for his wife and kids as he’s navigating this deep healing journey that has changed him. Those of us who are sensitive, and hold intuitive gifts within us, might reach a point in our lives where we feel dissatisfied. Some of us may have always felt that way.There’s a monotony to the traditional structure of life, and so many of us can’t help but shake the feeling that there is more for us out there. Marriage is something that can completely envelop us, either aiding in our spiritual growth or hindering it. For many of us, we find ourselves in marriages that have limited our exploration of our spirituality, and we feel called to leave. And while that may leave us in a position where we don’t know what’s to come, I believe that this chapter of transition is a particularly beautiful one.
Earli is here seeking guidance. She’s in the process of a really tough divorce. Our bodies are always trying to protect us. For those of us who have gone through very hard things, especially in childhood, our bodies have ways to shield us from the trauma that we’re going through. In some cases, this might create long periods of time that we can barely recall later in life.
Debbie is here seeking answers. When she was a young child growing up, her mother was battling breast cancer. And what this has led to for her is that she cannot remember any good or safe memories from her childhood from before the age of 10 years old, even though she knows that they must have happened. Today, Debbie and I have a vulnerable conversation about the ways the body processes trauma and how to access those seemingly lost parts of ourselves.
